Newspapers, magazines, blogs, and other news outlets publish op-eds in their editorial sections in order to present diverse, well-developed opinions on topics that are important to readers.
UMBC recognizes and appreciates the right to express one’s own opinions publicly. Faculty and staff who choose to exercise their rights as citizens should make every effort to indicate clearly that the position they take is an individual opinion and does not represent the opinion of the University. If an employee identifies themselves as a member of the faculty or staff of UMBC, they should clearly state that the views expressed are their own and not necessarily those of the University.
UCM can help with guidance in envisioning, outlining, or reviewing an opinion piece. Letting us know about your plans early will allow us to best assist in submitting the op-ed or suggesting possible outlets for submission.
